Experience Repair Garden, an interactive hands-on workshop dedicated to mending beloved clothing and fabric pieces using fundamental hand-sewing techniques. All necessary tools, materials, and expert guidance are supplied to participants.
This special workshop features Kione Kochi, an accomplished quiltmaker who has traveled from Japan to lead sessions at Sooki Studio. The initiative was created by a collaborative team including button designer Yuuka Miyazono, garment repair specialist Shoko Fukushima, and Kione. Together, they focus on teaching the art of repairing knitted and woven textiles using fabric scraps, needles, yarn, and various thread options.
Each session begins with an informative artist presentation followed by demonstrations of fundamental techniques for darning knit garments and patching woven materials. Following these introductions, participants have open-ended time to work on their own repair projects in a comfortable, communal environment that encourages collaborative learning.
The philosophy of Repair Garden centers on mutual learning and skill sharing. By providing basic tools and supplies to all participants, the workshop removes barriers to developing hand-mending skills. Beyond simply restoring an item's functional purpose, mending offers opportunities to add decorative embellishments and breathe new life into garments and household items.
Important Information:
This workshop specializes exclusively in hand-repair techniques for knit and woven fabric items. Machine sewing is not available, and leather repair services are not provided.
Some projects may extend beyond the workshop timeframe. Participants are welcome to take home materials to complete their repairs at their own pace.
