Class Description

Description

Interested in making a Risograph publication but not sure where to start? Join Lindsay Buchman of Seaton Street Press to learn the ins and outs of Risograph printing and create a small edition of photobooks.

In this course, participants of all levels will be introduced to various approaches for printing including scanning, printing with one color, and duotone and tritone printing, emphasizing prepress approaches for book layouts. Using combinations of ink including black, bright red, purple, white, yellow, or metallic gold, participants will learn how to achieve the desired tonality in their prints.

The remainder of the course will be dedicated to printing, sequencing, and assembling the photobooks. Students will arrange their prints into book dummies, exploring text-image relationships and considering how material and binding choices shape the book as an object.

The course includes an introduction to artists’ books and photobooks, Photoshop and InDesign demonstrations, personalized guidance on the Risograph machine, and group feedback sessions.

Students should come to the course with 5-7 digital photos and concepts to develop, leaving the course with their own small edition of 5-10 photobooks.

Photobooks are limited to 16 pages maximum. Students may rent the Risograph outside of class at an additional cost.

Tuition includes a $150 materials fee.
