There are many facets to street photography – from an intellectual approach to surrealism. In this 6-session course, students will study these two techniques and many more.
Observing the diverse work of avant-garde photographers as a starting point, this course gives special emphasis to the world view of the concerned photographer versus the post-modernist aesthetic. We will also explore other non-street photographers whose work changes the way we view the world around us. As weather allows we will take a field trip on the Lower East Side and visit locations where famous photographs were made.
Each week’s class will be followed by assignments that will be critiqued in the following class.
Students must bring their own digital camera (tablets and smartphones are OK).
