Work directly with highly acclaimed sculptor Ailene Fields in this hands-on stone carving course for all skill levels.
The course covers the complete arc of the stone carving process, from initial concept and roughing out, through the development of three-dimensional form, to final surface finishing and polishing. Students may work in a softer stone or choose marble, and the course also covers proper tool selection, sharpening, and maintenance throughout. By the time the class concludes, participants will have the foundational knowledge needed to continue working independently in stone.
Instruction is individually tailored, so students at any level of experience will find the course genuinely challenging and rewarding. More advanced students can also learn pneumatic carving techniques using the studio's air compressor.
Open studio time is included in the course.
- Mondays: Pneumatic carving, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- Tuesdays: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Thursdays: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Saturdays: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Hours are subject to change, particularly on Saturdays.
Please Note:
- Students choose their own project and select their own stone.
- Studio access during regular business hours is included in the class fee, along with one three-hour evening class per week with the instructor.
- Basic tools are included in the class fee.
- Students are responsible for purchasing their own stone, typically ranging from $35 to $150 depending on size and material.
- Students of all skill levels are warmly welcome.
