Class Description

Description

Explore the rich origin, history, and distinctive character of some of the world's most sought-after wines. Discover how cool growing environments profoundly influence the development of distinctive grape varieties and the unique wine styles produced in these renowned wine regions.

France stands as one of the world's major wine-producing nations, with centuries of winemaking tradition and expertise. In fact, the French national Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) system serves as the foundation and model for most wine labeling laws around the world. Many French grape varieties that originated in France are now cultivated throughout different regions globally, influencing winemaking practices internationally.

In this comprehensive course, you will develop a deeper understanding of the cool climates, distinctive grape varieties, and characteristic wine styles found in northern France. Together, we will explore the prestigious regions of Champagne, Alsace, the Loire Valley, and Burgundy in detail, examining what makes each area unique, celebrated, and respected within the global wine community. You'll gain insights into regional terroir, production methods, and the factors that contribute to each region's renowned reputation.
